Crazy Wisdom: Jim Carrey Wakes Up

Jim Carrey, crazy wisdom, sacred clown

In the garden of gentle sanity, May you be bombarded by the coconuts of wakefulness— Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

Comic Jim Carrey is the epitome of crazy wisdom, teaching us about ourselves through his sharp interpretation of what makes us human. Check out  Jim Carrey’s Website for evidence of how crazy he can get.

In such films as the brilliant and unsettling The Truman Show or I  Love You Phillip Morris, Carrey successfully treads the fine line between comedy and tragedy. His rare ability to embody both states defines many of his roles. The comedic teacher is an archetype of many spiritual traditions, from the Native American trickster Coyote and sacred clowns,  to the Nordic Loki, who Carrey ironically played in The Mask. The trickster is a creative force of transformation, often bizarre, outrageous and cunning.

Here, in a rare public moment of introspection, Jim Carey describes his spiritual awakening in his own inimitable style.
